A Closer Look at the New INP Metric

Annotation

Google has announced that the Interaction to Next Paint (INP) metric will replace the current First Input Delay (FID) metric in March 2024. Interaction to Next Paint is a stricter metric that better reflects the user’s experience with a website. It has a significant impact on interactivity and JavaScript, as well as design and UX. Optimizing this metric can take several months of work on large websites, so now is the best time to start addressing it.

What does the arrival of INP mean for developers? What is this interaction, how is it measured, debugged in the browser, and optimized? You’ll learn this and much more in the presentation.
